Also in the thirties Ross started a new production line, the so-called luxury cards or luxury class. Those cards had a bigger format (10,5 x 14,5 cm) and were available in both versions, sepia brown and light. The sales price was a little bit more expensive (20 German pennies per card). The numbering of those cards was different. The very first luxury card was a Garbo motif with number 500. All following luxury cards carried a single number consisting of 3 digits without further specification after a slash (as it was before) or a letter infront of the number. Additionally the new line was earmarked with a special emblem in gold, a certain seal saying “Ross Luxusklasse” (Ross luxury class) on the back side of each card.
Ross published 20 Greta Garbo luxury cards, beginning with number 500 and ending with number 780. The new line showed motifs out of 5 different Garbo films: SUSAN LENOX, ROMANCE, INSPIRATION, MATA HARI and AS YOU DESIRE ME. All cards present Greta alone, just one single luxury card (No. 701) images Greta and her partner Ramon Novarro in MATA HARI.
The new line was an elegant and enjoyable enhancement of well designed photocards for customers and collectors with higher demands.
