Soundfile from Garbo’s Shipboard Press Conference 1946 discovered

A little treasure for us fans. You hardly here anything but you get a little impression of Garbo speaking Swedish to reporters in 1946.

On 6 July 1946, boarded the Gripsholm for her first postwar visit to Sweden.

An army of reporters awaited her at the dock with questions, and one or two of them even got an answer. Asked if she was planning to affiliate with a newly organized Swedish film corporation, she replied: ‘Oo-la-la, no, nothing like that.’

Greta also agreed to pose for a few photos, even managing a smile. “I had to get up very early this morning,” she stated, adding that she was going to Sweden “just to take it easy.”

Carice van Houten to play Greta Garbo in new biopic

Dutch actress Carice van Houten is to co-produce and star in a new biographical film about the legendary Swedish filmstar Greta Garbo, Screen International reports.

 

The film will tell the story of the shop assistant who rose to become a major Hollywood star and retired in her prime. The film promises to be 'respectful but will offer a radically different perspective on Garbo', Screen International said.

The Italian Greta Garbo is gone: Rossella Falk dies at 86

One of the greatest Italian stage actresses has died in Rome at the age of 86.

Rossella Falk was a giant among Italian actresses. The label “the Italian Greta Garbo” was well chosen, and even her hairstyle recalled that of the film star, though Falk’s career, unlike Garbo’s, continued well into her eighties. Her 2006 biography was called The Last Diva, and a diva she was. She frequented the likes of Jean Cocteau, Noël Coward, Dirk Bogarde, Peter O’Toole, and had a twenty-year friendship with Maria Callas, whom she later played in Terence McNally’s Master Class.

BLUSH – A film about GG, Marlene, and Mercedes?

Director-writer-producer Linda Yellen has signed a deal to direct a film about the complex and controversial love triangle between Garbo, Marlene Dietrich and Mercedes de Acosta.

 

The film will be called “Blush”. Filming starts this August.

Rome's Nordic Film Festival: Garbo tribute

It will take place at the Casa del Cinema in Rome/Italy from 11 to 14 April.

They will screen a RESTORED version of NINOTCHKA.

The festival is designed to promote the film industry and culture of the Nordic countries, and includes Italian premieres, documentaries and short films.

Greta’s Pop and Rock Records

Film Director and writer Allison Anders won Garbo's rock and pop records in the 2012 Julian’s Auction’s Greta Garbo (Dec., 2012). On her TUMBLR ‘Greta’s Records’, she plays them and talks about them.

Anders wrote that the question one needs to ask when you bid in an auction like this. What do you truly WANT, just something which belonged to her?  Everyone would love a dress she wore — but what would you really DO with it?  Keep it in plastic fearful of moths chewing it up? A lamp?  A plate?  A pair of gloves her fingers wriggled into?

Then — she saw it. Greta Garbo had records!  What would possibly be in Greta Garbo’s private record collection?  All of it was thrilling and surprising.  There were several lots of records up for auction — including one of classical records and opera, one of spoken word, one of jazz, then one of international records, and one of rock and pop records.

Anders bid on the last two lots and was the winning bidder on the rock/pop records! 50 of them! She now owns Greta Garbo’s Beatles records and her twist records.

She then found a great little vintage decoupaged record box from her office to put them in, and bought a little red Crosley Spinnerette portable record player so she could play them easily without hassle.

But she also thought it would be nice to share these records. So that’s the intent of her Tumbler Blog in 2013. With each post, she shared the experience of pulling a record from Greta’s collection and playing it all the way though, as we might imagine what Greta was doing when she was listening.

Anders has directed many independent films, on which she frequently collaborates with fellow UCLA film school graduate Kurt Voss. Two of her best known works are Four Rooms (USA 1995) and Grace of my Heart (USA 1996).

New Exhibition in London!
Miss G - The Secret World of Greta Garbo

Garbo's wardrobe is the subject of an exhibition in London.

Miss G — The Secret World of Greta Garbo displayed items from the personal wardrobe and New York home of Greta Garbo alongside contemporary designs.

It opens on February, 15 and closes on March, 19,
at Belmacz Gallery, 45 Davies Street in London/England.

The curators of Miss G., Belmacz designer Julia Muggenburg and fashion historian Bronwyn Cosgrave, acquired the artwork, couture and decorative objects to be exhibited from a landmark auction of Garbo’s possessions which was staged at Julien's Auctions in Beverly Hills, California 2012.

Juxtaposing Garbo’s possessions with luxury accessories recently created by legendary British designers Manolo Blahnik, MBE and Stephen Jones, OBE, shed new light on her complex character.
