Garbo's Grave - The memorial service



Introduction

The memorial service, by Bishop Caroline Krook, was held on June 17. It  was held the day (a sunny Thursday afternoon) after her ashes were buried. Greta's gravestone is very close to those of the Gustafson's family grave. Her Memorial Service was filmed for Swedish TV. They speeches were held in two languages - English and Swedish In the background were bouquets of  flowers in Garbo's favourite colour.

There were only 35 participants, friends, family and people from film or politic.

At Garbo's mermorial service several musician's were assigned for the music.

Guitar, Saxophon & Singing:
Arne Dominions played the Saxophon. Rune Gustafsson played the Guitar and Mikael Samuelson sang.

Karin Strid played the Organ.

 Härlig Är Jorden (traditional) (accompanied by the participants and little choir)

Pipes and Drums:
The Pipes and Drums of the first Royal Engineers (Pipes). Outside the church, a Scottish Pipe band played Greta's favorite music.

Gray's last words from her speech

 

"If Greta Garbo would been here today, she might have quoted a line of poetry, as she often did. Alexander Pusking wrote: .... not all of me is dust, within my song my spirit will survive... and she (Greta) herself would ad: .... and if my acting touched you, think kindly of me, smile and leave a flower at my grave...."
