Garbo's 1958 Date Book

A 1958 Frank Smythson Ltd. "Wafer" Diary date book.

 
 

Many handwritten entries on date pages, including an outline of a September trip to Greece. Along with addresses and phone numbers written in the telephone section, memoranda section, and on the endpapers. Includes an entry for "Beaton" in London, assumed to be for Cecil Beaton.

Sold at Julien's Auctions in September 2014.

 

Garbo's Customs Declaration

"Customs Declaration" completed and signed by Garbo upon her return to New York on April 25, 1976. She prints her name, date of birth, flight "Eastern 996," and address, "450 E. 52nd N.Y.C.," and signs after declaring that she is not carrying fruit, animal products, live organisms or has not visited a farm and was not carrying over $5,000.

This is an autographed letter signed "Harry boy" (reclusive Garbo's pseudonym). Written on Jan 1961 in pencil to "Dear Gilly" (Sidney Guilaroff).

She writes: "What has happened? No sign from you? Please let me know because it is so unlike you not to send a word...I...feel more or less like a rag!...", accompanied by original mailing envelope, historical note Guilaroff recognized as greatest Hollywood hairdresser, Garbo's famous curls in Camille & lovely pageboy in Ninotchka were his work.

Garbo signed a James Montogormery Flagg

This is a reproduction of a sketch of Greta Garbo, done by the artist James Montogormery Flagg. Flagg also created the recruiting poster of Uncle Sam pointing his finger and proclaiming "I Want YOU". Garbo has signed "To Arthur Greta Garbo".
