Sprung Monkey is an American band that originated in San Diego, California, USA. They wrote a song about Greta which appeared on their album Mr. Funny Face in 1998.

Expert from the lyrics:
well bless my soul she's right on time
dressed to kill she looks so fine
like greta garbo in gaberdine
her image on the silverscreen
well it's elementary like two plus two
but it's animal just what i feel for you
do you ever want to know me
do you ever want to step in my dreams
cause i'm tired of looking at pictures
flipping through the magazines
do you ever want to know me
do you ever want to step in my dreams
cause i'm tired of looking at pictures
making love to what i see
the rain is pouring down outside
but i am safe i'm warm and dry
well tell me now what's a boy to do
falling for a girl like you
well it's elementary like two plus two
but it's animal just what i feel for you
do you ever want to know me
do you ever want to step in my dreams
cause i'm tired of looking at pictures
flipping through the magazines
do you ever want to know me
do you ever want to know to step in my dreams
cause i'm tired of looking at pictures
making love to what i see
always alluding to your offers of the big-time
i had trouble understanding what was really mine
was it here today maybe gone tomorrow
was it a love that i have
or is it a love that i borrow
because you can see that life is just a question
although largely based on our decisions
should i do this should i do that
could i make this could i be that
well it's elementary like two plus two
but it's animal just what i feel for you
do you ever want to know me
do you ever want to step in my dreams
cause i'm tired of looking at pictures
flipping through the magazines
do you ever want to know me
do you ever want to know to step in my dreams
cause i'm tired of looking at pictures
making love to what i see

Ask The Slave (Group of Islands) - Greta Garbo

(no info found)

Greta Garbo

A love child
One is on the screen, one is never seen
A love so right in silent black and white

A love that feels as if it was real
I´m sure that it was real
The silver screen and the space between

An aura of northern delight
Double life inside
Just take her home, just leave her alone

I can't get started - by Bunny Berigan (1937)

Rowland Bernard "Bunny" Berigan (1908 - 1942) was an American jazz trumpeter who rose to fame during the Swing Era, but whose virtuosity and influence were shortened by a losing battle with alcoholism that ended in his early death.

 The lyrics:
I've flown around the world in a plane
I've settled revolutions in Spain
And the North Pole I have charted
Still I can't get started with you

On the golf course, I'm under par
Metro Goldwyn have asked me to star
I've got a house, a showplace
Still I can't get no place with you

'Cause you're so supreme
Lyrics I write of you, I dream
Dream day and night of you
And I scheme just for the sight of you
Baby, what good does it do?

I've been consulted by Franklin D
Greta Garbo has had me to tea
Still I'm broken-hearted

'Cause I can't get started with you

Only giving what it takes

Que j'ai connue trop tard
Qui est partie trop t t?

Toi, on te murmurait Marl ne
Toi, l'ange bleu de nos nuits bl mes
Jarretelles noires et bas nylon
Tes cuisses nous filaient le frisson
Toi, on te murmurait Marl ne
Toi, la femme-femme, la Gretchen
Toi, l' quivoque Walkyrie
Qu'on chevauchait toutes les nuits

Qui regretta Greta?
Qui regretta Garbo
Qui avait le corps p le
Qui avait le coeur gros?
Qui regretta Greta?
Qui regretta Garbo
Que j'ai connue trop tard
Qui est partie trop t t?

On vous appelait la Divine
Quand vous jouiez la reine Christine

Je crois que je t'aimais Garbo

These things are dear to me

Due di notte senza amore
ed io appoggiato ad un lampione
solo
Due di notte a spasso
ed io che seguo i passi di quel passo
come si fa
a dire divertirsi in questa città
come si fa
a dire qualche novità

Esco da un locale
trovo davanti la mia vecchia scuola
solo
Qui le due di notte
si fanno tre ma sono poche ancora
come si fa
a spendere così la mia età
dove si va
per un po' di felicità

Qui ci vorrebbe un miracolo
una notte dai mille grandi incontri
un dolce amore là all'angolo
occhi di quelli che uccidono
le scarpe basse di un angelo
due vecchi amici che tornano
Vorrei qualcosa di fantastico
darei la vita per trovare
Greta Garbo al semaforo
ali di quelle che volano
verso un destino romantico
incontro a un nuovo pericolo

Tre di notte a piedi
a regalare cicche ai marciapiedi
solo
Tre di notte vanno
ed io che non ho soldi e non ho sonno
come si fa
a dormire in questa città

dove si va
stare fermi è un'assurdità

Via Nazionale
qui non si può che camminare
solo

Tre di notte e quattro
ed io che sono triste e insoddisfatto
come si fa
a spendere così la mia età
dove si va
per un po' di felicità

Qui ci vorrebbe un miracolo
una notte dai mille incontri
un dolce amore nel traffico
la piazza piena di fragole
due orchestre in gamba che suonano
un vecchio tempo ballabile
Vorrei qualcosa di impossibile
darei la vita per trovare
Greta Garbo al mio tavolo
e bere in due fino all'ultimo
tutto il futuro in un attimo
e poi mi porti via il diavolo

Tre di notte e quattro
Ed io che sono triste e insoddisfatto

Solo
Due di notte senza amore
ed io appoggiato ad un lampione

Solo

Due di notte a spasso
Ed io che seguo i passi di quel passo

Solo

Tre di notte a piedi
a regalare cicche ai marciapiedi

Solo

Tre di notte vanno
ed io che non ho soldi non ho sonno

Solo

Darlin', don't you ever stop with that smilin', yeah yeah
Your pretty smile it could light up any room,
I've seen it many times banish any gloom
Darlin', don't you ever stop with that smilin', yeah yeah

She had exquisite style
She was upper class
She had supernatural grace
A mélange of Aphrodite and Venus
Combined with an angel's face

She didn't talk to the press
She couldn't care less
She didn't even answer the phone
She said on one occasion, without persuasion:
I want to be left alone
From this moment on, from dusk till dawn
Till the end of time, I'll be with you
You'll be with me, forever in my mind

It's you I see before me, oh oh, Garbo
C'est toi que je t'adore, oh oh, Garbo
A lovers' greatest story, oh oh, Garbo
They say well that's amore! oh oh, Garbo

People say on the day of victory, no fatigue is felt
Garbo, it's you that has the power
That makes ev'ry man's heart melt
They say that, when the heart is a fire
Sparks fly out of the cage but beauty is like a good wine,

The taste is sweeter with age
No man can guess in cold blood
What he might do in passion
But the things that he deplores today
Are tomorrow's latest fashion
Serving one's own passion
Is the greatest slavery
But if in wanting you
I become your slave
I intend no bravery

From this moment on, from dusk till dawn
Till the end of time, I'll be with you
You'll be with me, forever in my mind
It's you I see before me....... Garbo

Greta aime, divine infidèle
Baisers froids comme elle
Je l'aime

Divine
Fuir n'est pas facile
Quand la nuit vous a conquise

Tout est vide
Tu n'es plus
C'est ma vie, tu l'as perdue

Greta rit, et moi je rougis
Greta tremble, la mort lui ressemble
Greta meurt, j'entends dieu qui pleure
Greta aime, divine infidèle
Baisers froids comme elle
Je l'aime...

Bridgitte Bardo ?
I leave my love to Greta Garbo

Greta, Greta Garbo, Garbo.........

Magnifico, Magnific oh oh
A leading lady lover, A Cameo
Someone was bound to love you
A lifetime away
Your Romeo
I leave my love to Greta Garbo,

Sometimes when I'm lonely
Alone in the dark
She is my Candle
She is my Spark

With only a word or two
And soft as a sigh
She could be real to me
She could be mine

(Magnifico, Magnificat
She comes she goes, A cunning Cat)
The girl I see in the picture
Reminds me of you
Bridgitte Bardo ?
I leave my love to Greta Garbo

Greta, Greta Garbo, Garbo.........

Du bist meine Greta Garbo – by ?? (1930)

This is the German version of I Dreamed That I Was Kissed by Greta Garbo. The song was written by Walter Reisch and Robert Stolz in 1930. we still haven't found out who performed and recorded it in 1930.

The German artist Max Raabe did a great recording of the song in late 1999. Raabe is a German singer and band leader of the Palast Orchester. He and his orchestra specialise in recreating the sound of German dance and film music of the 1920s and 1930s, especially by performing songs of the Comedian Harmonists.

The song is available on the CD album Ein Freund, Ein Guter Freund.

The lyrics:
Du bist meine Greta Garbo
bist die schönste Frau der Welt.
Blond bist du wie Greta Garbo
nur hast du nicht so viel Geld.

Trotzdem kannst du mit den Wimpern klimpern
wie's die Garbo tut
Grad so schön wie sie
so mondän wie sie
Greta Garbo aus Hollywood.

Trotzdem kannst du mit den Wimpern klimpern
wie's die Garbo tut
Grad so schön wie sie
so mondän wie sie
Greta Garbo aus Hollywood.

Lyrics: Walter Reisch
Music: Robert Stolz

The lyrics:
Aus dem Hängematten-Himmel über Brooklyn
Springt der Schnee wie Fallschirmjäger
einer Dame auf die Haut.

Sie heißt Greta
und ihr Schweigen ist ein körperloses Tier
das im Chromnest eines Studebakers friert.
Greta Garbo, Greta Garbo
mit dem Hut im 1000-Dollar-Grau
keine Göttin, nur verwundbar
Greta Garbo ist ein Zittern namens Frau.

Karg wird sie einmal wiederkehr'n
wie die Spur eines Raben
in der Mähne des Winters.
Karg wird sie einmal wiederkehr'n
wie ein Teller voll Wasser. Karg.

Und wenn man euch erzählt,
das sie gestorben sei.
Glaubt es nicht, glaubt es ihnen nicht.
Liebt sie bloß ein wenig mehr.
Greta Garbo, Greta Garbo
mit dem Hut im 1000-Dollar-Grau
keine Göttin, nur verwundbar
Greta Garbo ist ein Zittern namens Frau.

I love to waltz with a man in a dark linen suit
All alone-at a party with someone I knew
From a time gone by turned into stone

You could be Garbo or even Marlene
You could be Marilyn...
Or you could forget

I play the part but then all of us do
And I do it so well as I do it to you
In this town full of strangers
In this town full of fools

Venus doesn't glitter when she stands next to you
When you're waltzing through stardom
You miss what you lose

Lose yourself in a silvery dress
For you think you must do what you feel you do best
And you mustn't give it up for you're still but a guest

You could be Garbo or even Marlene
Or you could forget

Greta – Greta

denn alle Männer dieser Welt
lieben nur die Greta – Greta
geh' nur noch verschleiert aus
will mystisch sein wie du
denn mein liebes Verlangen
gibt mir keine Ruh'

Geh' nie in die Sonne mehr
blass zu sein wie Greta – Greta
doch mein Spiegel sagt zu mir du
wirst nie die Greta – Greta
schnüre mich in Leibchen ein
die göttliche Figur

doch packt mich ein Mann dann aus
flieht er auf den Flur
hätt ich nur dein Wesen …
Ich bin die Reinkarnation der göttlichen Greta

doch niemand kann es seh'n
das ist ein Problem – Greta hilf mir
hätt ich nur dein Wesen …
Wäre ich die göttliche Gre-he-he-he-he-he-ta
wär mein Leben halb so schwer
Greta hilf mir

du är gudomlig
du är kvinnan i mitt liv
ingen annan
kan ta din plats
här i minnenas arkiv

Greta Garbo
vi är alla
aktriser här på livets scen
ingen annan
kan ta vår plats
vi är unika fenomen
Hollywood är byggt av kulisser
i minnets kvartersbiograf
solen slocknar i Venedig
ridån går ner

Greta Garbo
du är gudomlig
du är kvinnan i mitt liv
evigt gåtfull
oåtkomlig
här i minnenas arkiv
Vi har alla
huvudrollen
i filmen om vårt eget liv
ingen annan
kan ta vår plats
och vårt eget perspektiv
Ljuset tänds i biograflokalen
din hand är varm och fuktig i min
vi går och äter var sin pizza
och dricker var sitt glas vitt vin

Greta Garbo
du är gudomlig
du är kvinnan i mitt liv
ingen annan
kan ta din plats
här i minnenas arkiv

Greta Garbo
vi är alla
aktriser här på livets scen
ingen annan
kan ta vår plats
vi är unika fenomen

Greta Garbo
du är gudomlig
du är kvinnan i mitt liv

The song Just like Greta Garbo (I want to be alone), was released in 2005 and appeared on his album Magic Time.

The lyrics:
Some days it gets completely crazy
And I feel like howling at the moon
Then sometimes it feels so easy
Like I was born with a silver spoon

Other times you just can't reach me
Seems like I've got a heart of stone
Guess I need my solitude
And I have to make it on my own

Well I guess I'm going A.W.O.L.
Disconnect my telephone
Just like Greta Garbo
I want to be alone

Need to make some real connection
Baby something's just got to give
'Cos I've been too long in exile
I've been grinding at the mill

Too long to decode all the secrets
Have to get some elbow room
Most people think that everything
Is just what they assume

Well I know I'm going A.W.O.L.
Tell everyone I'm not at home
Just like Greta Garbo
I just want to be alone

Well I'm going out to L.A.
I wanna get my business done
Then I'm going on to Vegas
Then I'm going on the run

If anybody asks you have you seen me
Please just tell them no
'Cos I'm living on the outside
And I have nowhere to go

Well I guess I'm going A.W.O.L.
Disconnect my telephone
Just like Greta Garbo
I just want to be alone

I just want to be alone
Disconnect my telephone
Just like Greta Garbo
I just want to be alone

Second hand designer shoes
the finest French perfume a working girl can afford to use

A stunning dress under draped white light
High heels in Hollywood, but you're the star
I want tonight

Looking in this big brass mirror
35 millimeter
I want to see you clearer

I'm here to make it clear to you
I wish that you would want me too
Like a silent movie beauty queen
On the big screen

One Greta Garbo love

Vintage Lace & A velvet heart
Bevelled window panes
Silhouettes after dark

a stunning dress, under draped white light
High heels in Hollywood & your
The star I want tonight

Shrouded in mystery
Oh what you do to me
I need to see you
Clearer

I'm here to make it clear to you
I wish that you would want me too
Like I silent movie beauty queen
on the big screen

One Greta Garbo Love

I'm watching this evening fire burn away my tears
All my life I've left my troubles by the door
'Cos leaving is all I've ever known before

It's not the way you hold me when the sun goes down
It's not the way you call my name that left me stranded on the ground
It's not the way you'll say you'll hear my heart when the music ends
No... I am just learning how to fly away again

It's not the way you say you'll hear my heart when the music ends
I am just learning how to fly away again

And maybe you were thinking that you thought you knew me well
But no-one ever knows the heart of anyone else
I feel like Garbo in this Late Night Grande Hotel
'Cos living alone is all I've ever done well

It's not the way you hold me when the sun goes down
It's not the way you call my name that left me stranded on the ground
It's not the way you'll say you'll hear my heart when the music ends
No... I am just learning how to fly away again

It's not the way you hold me when the sun goes down
It's not the way you call my name that left me stranded on the ground
It's not the way you'll say you'll hear my heart when the music ends
No... I am just learning how to fly away again

It's not the way you'll say you'll hear my heart when the music ends
No... I am just learning how to fly away again

You're cellophane.
You're sublime,
You're turkey dinner,
You're the time, the time of a Derby winner
I'm a toy balloon that's fated soon to pop
But if, baby, I'm the bottom,
You're the top!

What it takes to make a pro blush
She got Greta Garbo's standoff sighs, she's got Bette Davis eyes

Browning, Browning.
On l'voyait sur les grands journaux,
Juste à côté d'Greta Garbo,
Browning, Browning.
A l'écouter, on d'venait bête.
On n'avait plus qu'ça dans la tête,
Browning, Browning
Et nous pensions

Marre à la fin!
Il nous ennuie, l'Américain
Et son Browning.

Celluloid Heroes – by The Kinks (1972)

Celluloid Heroes is a song performed by The Kinks and featured on their 1972 album Everybody's in Show-Biz . Written by their lead vocalist, Ray Davies, the song mentions many famous actors of 20th century film by name and also mentions Los Angeles's Hollywood Boulevard.

Actors mentioned in the song include Greta Garbo, Rudolph Valentino, Bela Lugosi, Bette Davis, Marilyn Monroe, George Sanders, and Mickey Rooney. The central theme of the song the inhumane manner in which the Hollywood industry drains and exploits its stars, while their film images endure.

The lyrics:
Their names are written in concrete!

Don't step on Greta Garbo as you walk down the boulevard,
She looks so weak and fragile that's why she tried to be so hard
But they turned her into a princess
And they sat her on a throne,
But she turned her back on stardom,
Because she wanted to be alone.

You can see all the stars as you walk down Hollywood Boulevard,
Some that you recognise, some that you've hardly even heard of,
People who worked and suffered and struggled for fame,
Some who succeeded and some who suffered in vain.
Rudolph Valentino, looks very much alive,
And he looks up ladies' dresses as they sadly pass him by.
Avoid stepping on Bela Lugosi
'cos he's liable to turn and bite,

But stand close by Bette Davis
Because hers was such a lonely life.
If you covered him with garbage,
George Sanders would still have style,
And if you stamped on mickey rooney
He would still turn round and smile,
But please don't tread on dearest Marilyn
'cos she's not very tough,
She should have been made of iron or steel,
But she was only made of flesh and blood.

You can see all the stars as you walk down Hollywood Boulevard,
Some that you recognise, some that you've hardly even heard of.
People who worked and suffered and struggled for fame,
Some who succeeded and some who suffered in vain.

Everybody's a dreamer and everybody's a star
And everybody's in show biz, it doesn't matter who you are.

And those who are successful,
Be always on your guard,
Success walks hand in hand with failure
Along Hollywood Boulevard.

I wish my life was a non-stop hollywood movie show,
A fantasy world of celluloid villains and heroes,
Because celluloid heroes never feel any pain
And celluloid heroes never really die.

You can see all the stars as you walk along Hollywood Boulevard,
Some that you recognise, some that you've hardly even heard of,
People who worked and suffered and struggled for fame,
Some who succeeded and some who suffered in vain.

Oh celluloid heroes never feel any pain
Oh celluloid heroes never really die.

I wish my life was a non-stop hollywood movie show,
A fantasy world of celluloid villains and heroes,
Because celluloid heroes never feel any pain
And celluloid heroes never really die.

The Lyrics are by Ray Davis of the Kinks

Expert from the lyric:
I'm the twisted name
on Garbo's eyes
Living proof of
Churchill's lies
I'm destiny
I'm torn between the light and dark
Where others see their targets

Or herald loud
the death of Man
I'm sinking in the quicksand
of my thought
And I ain't got the power anymore

and Greta Garbo is probably crying,
while Robert Taylor
is locked in her dying embrace.
Chico and Groucho
and Chaplin and Lloyd
are all super.
Sweet Mickey Mouse,
Shirley Temple,
and dear Jackie Cooper.
